Section 1: Review (Approx.
150 words)

Throughout the 11 units of
my qualification, I have acquired a lot of experience in different elements
of technical theatre. I have worked on many productions during my time on the
course which has allowed me to come to the decision that my chosen discipline
is deputy stage management. This has allowed me to further my knowledge of
the technical elements including lighting, sound, audio visual and stage
management. For example, since starting the course I have learned how to set
up and operate a lighting and sound equipment. Furthermore, I have developed
my knowledge of how to be a successful stage manager. Working alongside my
peers have also developed my teamwork, management, time keeping and
communication skills. I recently worked as a deputy stage manager on our
college production of CinderELLA. The responsibilities included assisting the
stage manager with any tasks that need doing and calling the show.

Section 2: Project Concept

The concept for our show is
based on the original novel written by George Orwell named Animal Farm. The
aim of our production is to convey the important message about communism to the audience, especially in the
current situation in society in 2018. As a team, we anticipate in creating a
performance that’s dark, but also a performance where the audience leaves and
really reflects on the message of the show. Therefore, I believe that with
this project we have a lot of potential to really play on the audience’s
emotions and create a dark and intense atmosphere. We will create this
atmosphere using numerous techniques in technical departments including
lighting, sound, audiovisual and also the set. For example, with lighting
instead of lighting the stage from above to make the scene look more natural,
we could possibly light from the sides or from odd places, which would allow
us to play around with the shadows created by the cast. In addition, our
plans are to create soundscapes to be played throughout the performance which
will help to create an intense atmosphere. These soundscapes will include an
underlining track with different sound effects of animals overlaid. As the
show progresses so does the soundscape, this will lead to the sounds of
animals being slaughtered becoming louder. During the production, I will use
my time in tutorial to speak to my tutor about any problems I have. Also, I
will use the time when my peers are having their tutorials to do some
independent study.

Section 3: Evaluation (approx.
100 words)
|
||
During the production, I
will reflect and evaluate my work using a weekly log, where I will in detail
write about what I have achieved for that day. As a group, we are going to
document any decision making by recording our production meetings and taking notes
during them. When I’m working with my peers I’m going to work at a
professional standard to make sure I minimize disruption for myself and my
peers. Throughout the production, I will ensure that I will be working at the
highest standard possible as I would be if I was working on a professional
show.
